UPDATE: Girl Who Fed Homeless Vet in Viral Video Needs Your Help!

September 25, 2016 By Julie Watts 5 Comments

You’ve likely seen the viral video of the adorable Northern California 8-year old who gave her dinner (silverware and all) to a homeless man outside a restaurant. It’s been viewed more than 100 million times.

Ella and her dad came on our show this morning to talk about the video that has inspired millions around the world. But they ended the interview with a request for help.

The sister of the homeless veteran Ella fed saw the video online. She says her brother suffers from PTSD and she’s desperately been trying to find him. Ella and her dad Eddie are now asking for help to track the man down. They think he lives in Monterey, CA—at least that is where he was when they met him.

If you know the man in the video or how to find him, please reach out to us! Please also share this post with anyone you know in Monterey, CA.

Begin Original Post:
‘Dad Records Daughter’s Act of Kindness, Facebook Falls In Love!’

When this Northern California father allowed his daughter to follow her instincts and give her dinner to an apparently homeless man, he likely had no idea it would impact millions. This sweet little girl’s random act of kindness has now gone viral.

It began as a simple Facebook post by Eddie Scott:

“My baby girl Ella learned an important lesson today – Help those less fortunate than you!! So proud of my girl.”

Maybe it was the adorable girl in the video… Maybe it was the heartwarming generosity… Maybe it was the refreshingly positive message on a platform that is too often used to spread hate and polarizing opinions… But whatever the reason, this video resonated with millions.

Following a slew of comments from friends within the first 24 hours echoing various versions of “amazing,” “beautiful” and “good job dad,” Eddie Scott replied:

Eddie Scott I am so humbled by so many of you that have liked and shared this video of Ella giving her dinner to this homeless man. Truth be told I have taught Ella to do this since she was 3 years old when we lived in Brooklyn/Manhattan. I have had so many people help me in my life it’s so important that I give that lesson to my daughter Thank you so much for your support It means the world to me!!

Little did he know, that was just the beginning. A couple of days later, strangers began to react to the video from around the world:

Grasiela Fernandes Ramalho Parabéns pela sua boa ação. ..Deus olha para cada ação que isso vire rotina…Filhos bem criados se tornarão bons adultos…linda

Auto Translation: Congratulations on your good deed. .. God looks at every action that turn routine… kids well created will become good adults… beautiful

Some people were so touched that they sent him a friend request:

Jackie Greenwald Thank you for accepting my friend request. You are an amazing father and have such a precious young lady there. Bless both of you💕

Others insisted that the world would be a better place if more people were like this little girl, or simply witnessed her act of kindness:

Cherie Scarbrough I just have to tell you how beautiful your daughter is, and what a wonderful father You must be. I raise my son this way. I’m going to raise my stepson this way. Imagine, if we all taught our kids to be kind to others, what a wonderful world this would be.
I’m actually really surprised this video hasn’t gone viral yet. Some news stations will pick it up because she is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen

We did.

My hope is that this video touches your heart in the same way it touched mine. That it reminds you that there is still good in this world. That it inspires you to “do unto others” or just generally make the word a better place.

Thanks to fellow NewsMom Kristine Lazar for sharing this video. And thanks to my Dad for striving to instill similar values in us.
